I wrote this post almost two years ago after the step change in coding capabilities of LLMs with the Claude 3.5 Sonnet. In some ways it feels like we’ve come a long way. In others, it feels like this release happened just the other day.

With the surge of new SaaS and agent-focused products made possible by agent coding, I’ve had to complete recalibrate my sense for what the web presence of a “serious” company looks like. The median company page looks like a weekend vibe coded project and because the barrier to entry is so low, my expectation that a team will have staying power having invested minimally is also lower than it used to be.

Me, sitting next to someone, collaborating on code, to my agent, “Does anything need to be committed or is this just exploratory?” Them, “are you talking to me?”
